New releases

The DVLA releases a new sequence of registration marks for sale to the public twice each year in advance of the new car registration dates (scheduled for the 1st March and 1st September). For example, 07 registrations were released for cars registered after 1st March 2007 and 57 registrations for cars registered after 1st September 2007.

The public are invited to purchase the rights to these private number plates approximately 3 months in advance (usually in June and December each year). The plates can then be transferred later, though only to vehicles registered on or after these new registration dates.

Once the release date has been confirmed these registrations will be listed on our website as ‘New – How to buy’ private number plates, together with the appropriate prices. You may then place an offer to acquire the private number plate through our site or over the telephone in the normal way. On the release date, your offer will be presented to the Secretary of State for Transport for consideration on a first come, first served, basis.
