Reasons why buying your private plate on a certificate for DIY transfer is so popular
-Certificates are ideal to give as gifts to the ones you love (just pop it in the celebration card!)
-You can give them straight to your dealer when you're ordering your brand new vehicle
-You can take the number plate off the market and transfer it to a vehicle at a later date to suit you
-Your certificate is initially valid for 12 months and can be renewed through us every year

Q1: I’m thinking of ordering a registration mark and doing the transfer myself, what happens after I’ve placed my order with you?

You will receive a confirmation of your order by e-mail and first class post. When we receive your order with full payment, we will immediately arrange for the registration mark to be taken off the market and assigned into the name you have given us. This name must be the same as the keepers’ name on the V5 vehicle registration document (log book), for the transfer to be successful.

We will arrange for the DVLA certificate entitling that named person (or organisation), to be sent to the address you have requested. Depending on the workload at our offices, this will normally be sent out to you by first class post within 4 working days .

Full instructions will be found on the reverse of the certificate telling you exactly what to do next, there are no extra fees to pay to finish off this transfer (provided your vehicle is registered with the DVLA and your tax disc and MOT are valid).

This certificate is initially valid for 12 months and you can renew it through us annually.

In brief, you will need to assemble all the documents relating to the vehicle, complete some forms and either post or take these to your DVLA Local Office. If you need to re-tax your vehicle you may do this at the same time. All your documents must be originals and valid ie your MOT must be current and also your tax disc if your vehicle requires one. ...Top

Q2: Can I purchase an Irish registration mark and do the transfer myself to save money?

Unfortunately the answer is NO. Irish transfers are quite complex and nearly always involve transfer directly from a vehicle located in Northern Ireland. Under the provisions of the Data Protection Act we are obliged to protect the identities of all of our clients and therefore could not supply you with their vehicle documentation, even if we wanted to do so. We will handle the entire transfer process for you. ...Top

Q3: Why aren't I able to do the transfer myself on all the number plates you have for sale?

Only number plates which are presently held on anonymous certificates can be self-transferred in order to comply with the conditions of the Data Protection Act and thus preserve the identity of the seller.
As many of the number plates for sale are presently on the vehicles of private individuals and the vehicle documentation includes personal details, such as names and addresses etc. we cannot pass such documents on to you.
We are authorised to carry out such transfers as we can preserve the personal details of both buyer and seller, but unfortunately you, as an interested party, cannot (even if you own or run a business which is also governed by this Law) ...Top
