For
a small fee of £10 plus VAT added to the DIY Transfer
cost, we will save you the time and hassle of carrying
out the transfer yourself.
So you can spend your time on the things that really
matter in life
If your vehicle is registered in Northern Ireland then further
charges and time scales must be allowed for, please click
here for more information.
By selecting this option you can be sure that we will complete
your transfer so that you can get on with more important
things.
If you have ordered a new vehicle then just give us the
details and we'll do the rest
If your vehicle already has a private number plate on it
then we will also help you transfer that registration mark
to
another vehicle or a Government retention (holding) certificate
before carrying out the transfer of your new personal
number plate.
Provided you send us all the documents we require then we
can carry out mutiple transfers like this at the same time
and if you have just bought a used vehicle and can supply
the whole V5C Registration document (also known as the logbook)
we can even make you the new keeper as well, saving you
lots of time.
Each extra transfer means a Government fee of £80
will be required, but we won't make any additional administration
charges for the extra work ourselves .
If your vehicle needs a new tax disc during the transfer or soon
after then just send us the renewal documents and cheque, we'll
take care of it for you.
A Direct Transfer
We will need you to send us the following documents when you are
ready to do the transfer
You have just under 12 months to complete your transfer
before a Government certification fee (£25.00) and
administration fee (£25.00) will be needed
to keep your number plate entitlement certificate valid.
1. The V5C registration document or 'Logbook',(original&
whole) or V5C/2 New Keepers supplement (green slip) if you
have recently bought the vehicle.
Tip |
If you have just bought
a used vehicle then read on...
If more than 10 days have passed since you bought
the vehicle and you still haven't received your new
V5C then you should wait for it to come as it is already
on its way to you and the V5C/2 New Keepers supplement
(green slip) won't then be valid any longer.
If you bought it within the last 10 days and then
we should be able to use it to carry out the transfer
so send it straight to us 1st class. If you have just
taken collection of a brand new vehicle....
Your new V5C should arrive within 14 to 28 days
so please wait for its arrival before sending
it to us |
2. If your vehicle is more than 3 years old then we
will need your valid MOT (original) certificate
3. A photocopy of your present tax disc, clearly showing your
present vehicle's registration mark and the tax expiry
date.
A Dealer Transfer
We will work directly with your dealer to get your new personalised
numberplate on your vehicle before collection (minimum 7 days notice
required)
If you are ordering a brand new vehicle just give us the contact
details for your dealer, the make and model of your vehicle and
your expected collection date and we'll do the rest. We do require
at least 7 days prior to collection to allow for transfer of documentation
but this can be shortened a little if you are prepared to pay the
Special express delivery charge of £4.75. Once you have placed
your order just call us with your payment card to settle this fee.
Provided we have enough notice then we should be able to do your
transfer in time but please don't leave your order until the last
minute as we still have to rely on the Royal Mail who can let us
down.
A Double Transfer
We will get the private plate off your car safely, before transferring
your new one to it
Bought a used vehicle with a private plate on it that the previous
owner wants to keep or already have your
own personal plate on the vehicle? Don't worry we can transfer
the existing plate either to another vehicle or
onto a Government retention V778 certificate provided you
can send us all the documents listed below together
with a separate cheque payable to DVLA Swansea for the extra transfer
(£80.00) or retention (£105.00) fee.
A Transfer to a vehicle registered in Northern
Ireland
This registration mark cannot be transferred directly to a Northern
Ireland registered vehicle.
It must be firstly assigned to a vehicle registered with
DVLA Swansea and once that assignment has been completed
and the updated V5C registration document has been returned
(to the keeper of the vehicle) the keeper may then apply
for a transfer through a mainland Vehicle Registration Office
for a transfer to a vehicle registered in Northern Ireland.
You will be required to pay an additional Government transfer fee
(presently £80) and will have to trust the keeper to carry
out this transfer for you, as the rights to the registration mark
will have become theirs during the first assignment.
If you are the keeper of vehicles in Northern Ireland and the
mainland (or have trustworthy friends or family with mainland registered
vehicles) of the right ages to accept the registration mark, then
this is the procedure necessary.
If you would like us to arrange the full transfer for you to a
Northern Ireland registered vehicle then we can do this and the
transfer will take between 2 and 3 months to be completed.
If you would like this service then please carefully read and
follow the instructions below:-
Firstly, ensure that your vehicle is of the right age to accept
the registration mark you are buying by finding out when it was
first registered, from your V5NI registration book or document.
Secondly, Telephone us to order the registration. Do not order
it online as we need to decide who is the Registered Keeper for
the first transfer to one of our own mainland vehicles.
The costs and timescale:
You will be required to pay for our Full Transfer co-ordination
service and in addition you will need to send us a cheque
for £80 made payable to DVLNI' (Driver and Vehicle
Licensing NI) for the second transfer.
You will also be required to pay a fee of £117.50
inc vat by cheque in order for us to use one of our own
donor vehicles for the first transfer.
To summarise: in addition to the advertised mainland full transfer
cost you will be required to pay £197.50 and the transfer
will take 2-3 months.
Frequently asked questions and answers for Full Transfers
Do I have to do my transfer straight away?
No, your V750 Certificate of entitlement to your new registration
mark (held at our offices) is valid for 12 months and can
be renewed on the eleventh month
by payment of a government certification fee (presently
£25) and an administration fee, presently £25.00.
You can therefore do your
transfer in many years time if you wish, making a private number
plate the ideal gift for a younger son or daughter.
Do I have to pay any more money?
No, your V750 Certificate of entitlement has the £80 government
transfer (assignment) fee already paid but you mustn't let
it expire
or you risk losing your rights to your new registration
mark.
Also once we have completed your transfer then there are
no ongoing charges for owning a personal number plate.
The only thing you need to buy is a pair of number plates costing
from £12.00 upwards depending on what style you choose.
What happens when I change my vehicle?
You can pay the government transfer fee, presently £80
to transfer your number plate to your next vehicle provided
that:-
1 Both vehicles are taxed, and tested (if MOT's are required)
2 Your number plate doesn't make your next vehicle look
younger than it actually is- This is a Golden rule for
all transfers.
Tip |
If you've saved your old
number plates then you can ask if your previous registration
mark can be re-instated to
the vehicle you are selling. So long as your old
registration is still on the government register
then this request is normally granted. |
Do I have to pay any more money to get my old plate back or a
replacement plate for the car I'm selling?
No, the government transfer fee of £80 covers this too. You
will have to get a pair of number plates to show the replacement
registration mark allocated to your vehicle.
