Registration is for someone else: Buying from dealership. (back to QNA start)
If the person you are buying the registration for is buying a brand new or second hand vehicle then it’s worth letting the dealership do the transfer for you. Your personal registration mark can be assigned to the your new vehicle prior to your collection.
When placing your order, complete the details as yourself. We will ask you for a 'Nominee' name (this is the name of the person or firm who is to be the new Registered Keeper of the vehicle). The transfer can be completed by the purchaser (yourself) or the '‘nominee'.
Transfer options explained
Self transfer service - we will send you an official government document called a Certificate of Entitlement (V750) with the legal rights to your new registration mark on it. This will take around 5 – 7 days to arrive and contain full instructions on how to complete the transfer. You or your nominee can take this to the dealership so that they can assign the new personal registration mark onto the vehicle.

Will I need to check with the dealership first?
Whilst most vehicle dealers are more than happy to assist with the transfer, we suggest that you check with them first out of courtesy. If the dealer is not willing to complete the transfer then you can always secure the registration now and complete the transfer when you have taken possession of the vehicle!
What happens to the old registration mark and numberplates?
If you have the space, then keep the old plates because you will probably be able to re-instate the original registration when you come to change your vehicle in the future.
Done-For-You Transfer service – we will liaise directly with the dealership so that the registration mark is assigned to the vehicle prior to collection. You won’t need to do anything; we will do the running around for you!
