You can still place an order for the registration even if you have no vehicle yet. It will be removed from general sale for you immediately so that no one else can buy it! The registration mark will be held on an official government certificate valid for 12 months. If you haven't assigned your new registration mark to a vehicle within that time, there will be an annual renewal fee of £54. Once the registration is assigned to a vehicle there are no further ongoing fees.


Transfer options explained


Self transfer service - We will supply you with an official Government Certificate (V750) with the legal rights to your new registration mark on it and you keep this until you are ready to use it. When you have the vehicle, you combine this with your vehicle documents and take or post everything to your local DVLA office. All documents are replaced with new ones showing your personal registration mark. This can be completed while you wait.

What details will I need to give you during the order process?
We will require:

If you’ve chosen to add replacement number plates to your order then we will also ask you for your preferred flag and any special requirements (alternate delivery address etc).

What happens next?
Once you have placed your order.

  • You will receive a confirmation of your order by email (email address is not compulsory).
  • We will immediately process your order and dispatch a postal confirmation (during our office opening hours).
  • We will arrange for the DVLA V750 certificate to be sent to the address you have requested. This will normally be sent out to you by first class post within 5 working days.
  • When you are ready to complete the transfer you can do so by visiting or sending your application to your DVLA vehicle office.

  • MOT certificate (if applicable, i.e. more than 3 years since first registration)
How long do I have to do the transfer
You will have 12 months to complete the transfer and this period can be extended if needs be. If you have not assigned the registration to a vehicle within 12 months from your purchase date then the certificate renewal will attract a DVLA fee and an administration fee to VRM Swansea. Currently the total renewal fee is £54.00- this will give you a further twelve months. Once the registration is assigned to a vehicle there are no further ongoing fees.

What happens to the old registration mark and numberplates?
If you have the space, then keep the old plates because you will probably be able to re-instate the original registration when you come to change your vehicle in the future.



Done-For-You Transfer service – You can opt to keep the Certificate of Entitlement (V750) or we can hold it in our safe premises while you wait until you have a suitable vehicle to assign it to. When you have the vehicle documents, all you need to do is send them to us and a member of our expert team will complete the transfer at Swansea DVLA Office to ensure the transfer is completed as quickly and accurately as possible saving you the time, expense and effort of a trip to your local vehicle office yourself.

During the order process we will ask you whether you would like to receive the DVLA V750 certificate or if you would prefer that we looked after it for you on our safe premises.

  • We will immediately process your order and dispatch a postal confirmation to you. The letter will ask for you to return your vehicle documents to us in the envelope provided.
  • When we receive your vehicle documents we will complete your transfer at Swansea DVLA vehicle office and return the documents to you as quickly as possible- as long as your documents are in order, the whole transfer can be complete within 7 days.

Do I need to send the documents immediately?
There’s no need to rush getting the vehicle documentation to us, if you would prefer to delay the transfer then you will have a full 12 months from the purchase date and this period can be extended if needs be. Please be assured that as soon as we receive your documents we will act on completing your transfer.
